Plagiarism

Plagiarism is the act of intentionally, or unintentionally, taking an other's words, pictures, phrases, or anything else and using it as your own. Plagiarism, for obvious reasons, is frowned upon in schools and occupations. I pledge not to plagiarize for many reasons. In addition to the consequences from school or my teachers, it also is lazy to avoid doing your own work. Like we discussed in class, plagiarism goes against the basic law of ethics. When one plagiarizes, you are not only cheating, but lying also. I believe it also can be seen as offensive that you would think your teacher or employer would not notice plagiarism. Even though plagiarism is cheating and wrong, it is also a bad idea due to the fact you will most likely be caught. Why risk expulsion, a zero on a test, or getting fired from a job? Just completing your own work with your own ideas probably ends up being easier and less time consuming than copying someone else's. I believe plagiarism is a poor choice in judgement and making your own ideas is more rewarding than stealing those of someone else. I pledge not to plagiarize in my English class, or any other class or job in the future.
